Affectionately known as Dinky, Sylvia Victoria Bacon was born on February 6, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Margarite (Pochey) and Victor Hilliard. Sylvia graduated from Hirsch High School in 1959. After graduation, she started her career at R.R. Donnelley and Sons where she worked for 25 years. She met and fell in love with Raymond Bacon Sr., and they were married in holy matrimony in 1964. After leaving R.R. Donnelley and Sons, she began a new career at the Chicago Tribune. In her later years, she worked as a security guard at Plaza 440 and retired at age 77.

The most important decision Sylvia made was when gave her life to Christ 40; she was baptized in Jesus’ name in 1981 and filled with the Holy Ghost at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park. She later moved her membership to Victory Apostolic Church. She loved attending church, giving Praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and speaking of God’s goodness and miracles. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 106:1, “Praise the Lord, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good: his love endures forever.” Sylvia was not only a servant for the Lord, but she loved her family. If you needed her, she was there for you. Now she would fuss, LOL, but she would do almost anything for her family.
